About Me

I’m Tamara. My husband and I live in the heart of the Ozarks along with our five kids, three fish, two dogs, one cat, and six chickens. We’ve been homeschoolers since 2005 and currently teaching early elementary, upper elementary, jr. high, high school, and a baby! A few of these little gems are early risers. Their mother….not so much. So, life does indeed Start at 6, with or without me! We’re wanna-be gardeners and back yard chicken farmers.  I personally love making lists and schedules that I can be proud of…and later ignore. I enjoy searching out awesome ideas, saving them to my computer, and never looking at them again. My hobbies include designing beautiful notebooking and journaling pages to use in our schooling and then rarely use them! So they don’t go to waste, I make them available to others here at Starts at 6! Our weeks are full of school lessons, therapies, reminders to do school lessons, and activities to avoid said school lessons. I have a curriculum addiction so I thoroughly enjoy reviewing curriculum options and sharing my favorites with other homeschool moms. I have a heart for connecting with other moms who are trying to be the best moms they can be, but struggle because of chronic/invisible illnesses and other health issues so we can learn from and encourage one another. I {strive to} count all my health trials as special gifts that give me a different perspective and empathetic compassion, as well as a deep need to experience life with others who have the same special gift, even if through the screen.

James 1:2-3 (NIV) Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.…

2 Cor 12:10 (NIV) That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Let’s connect here, at Starts at 6, where you’ll always find a listening ear attached to a real person who really gets it, whether it be about homeschooling, learning issues, busy schedules, housekeeping, mothering, wife-ing, or doing any of the above while also facing the internal and external battles that come with health issues; an honest, real-life look into our less-than-perfect days {nothing Pinterest Perfect here!}; and someone who is learning to count her trials as the gift that they are and delight in my weakness so that I might testify of God’s plan that has made beauty from ashes in my life.
